About Terra Presa

Our program focuses heavily on form and function. Having a dog that conforms to the breed standard while still maintaining natural abilities to guard, be competitive in sport or work and live life as a healthy companion. Our breeding dogs are put to the test in health and function through OFA/PennHIP evaluations for hips, elbow, eyes and heart along with comprehensive dna panel testing before breeding.

All dogs are required to have earned a UKC Championship, novice level obedience title, performance title and some kind of judged temperament test along with appropriated health scores before breeding. It is an ethical breeder's duty to maintain integrity and improve faults among our breeds.

Presa Canarios as a breed are multifunctional. Their origins in the Canary Island's mountainous and rocky terrain called for a hardy and intelligent dog. They were developed to be a resilient guard dog along with livestock herding and protection from predators.  In the early 1900's, the breed was used for dog fighting and it nearly brought about their demise. Fortunately, there were a dedicated few who sought to bring the breed back to its former glory.

Now in the 21st century they are still used for their guarding expertise and a variety of other similar purposes. To sum it up, anything that requires courage.

They are strong willed and need a consistent hand to guide them however if you are fair, they will do just about anything you ask of them.

TerraPresa is located in the great American state of Oklahoma.

With its name coming from the Choctaw nation, meaning Red People, there are many things red about our great home. Most notably the red clay aka ‘red dirt’ that makes up our soil. Seeking to stay true to foundation of the breed and represent our home, the word  ‘terra’  was chosen.
